Ms. Gloria Jean Phillips

With profound sadness, the Phillips family announces the peaceful passing of Gloria Jean Phillips, who gained her wings on December 4, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on April 19, 1949, at Alton Memorial Hospital, Gloria was the fifth of ten children born to McCurtis Phillips and Ruth Evelyn Phillips. A lifelong resident of Alton, Illinois, Gloria graduated from Alton High School and became a beloved member of her community. Known for her generous heart, a passion for cooking, her love for children, and a radiant smile that could brighten any room, Gloria touched countless lives. As a devout Christian, Gloria was an active and cherished member of Open Door Fellowship in Alton, where her faith and commitment to her church community left an enduring legacy. Gloria now rests in the Kingdom of Heaven, joyfully reunited with her parents, McCurtis Phillips and Ruth Evelyn Phillips; her sisters Barbara Ann Brooks, Connie Maxine Jackson, Charlene Marie Phillips, and Katherine Michelle Stewart; her brother Clyde Phillips; her beloved niece Gwinnett "Cookie" Jackson; and her nephews Robert Brooks, Robert Arnold Britts and Monte Allen Britts. Her love and memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, including her devoted son Durondo Phillips, loving daughter-in-law Lupe Phillips, and adoring grandchildren Brendan, Zakia, Reggie, Antonia, Antoine, Durondo Jr., Davion, D'Adrian, and Dayza Phillips. She will also be deeply missed by her sisters Eva Britts, Julia Phillips, and Shelia Phillips; her brother John Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, including Sharon Cannon, Katrina Hill, Brendon Phillips, Shelly Brooks, Damien Phillips, Keyote Brooks, Troy Phillips, Toyann Phillips, Christopher Stewart, Tonya Stewart, Eva Stewart, Greyling Jackson, John Foster, and Shirette Phillips. Gloria's legacy extends to a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins spread across the country. Gloria’s warmth, faith, and laughter will forever echo in the lives she touched. Her family and friends take comfort in the knowledge that she is at peace, embraced by her Heavenly Father, and watching over those she loved so dearly.
