Mr. James D. Lovett

James Donald “Ducky” Lovett was born on March 4, 1955, in Blytheville, Arkansas. He was the seventh child of the late Albert and Ophelia (Townes) Lovett. He transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Ducky passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved wife and partner of 31 years, Karen, children, and family. He lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, joyful presence, and impeccable comedic timing. Ducky grew up in Alton, Illinois, and was educated in the Alton School District. Following his formal education, Ducky embarked on his career as a laborer and later as a custodian. He brought his special aura to the workplace. His colleagues knew him as a jovial and hardworking individual who always went above and beyond. Ducky spent part of his career as a caster in the foundry for Owens Brockway in Alton, IL, where he worked for many years until they closed in 1993. He spent the final years of his career as a custodian, working for Kreative Kids Learning Center, Aramark, and finishing out his tenure at Defender. Ducky touched many lives through his work. He was always smiling, cracking jokes, and endearingly referring to everyone as “rotten outfits.” He enjoyed many sports, but he was truly a lifelong Minnesota Vikings football fan who never missed a game. In his free time, Ducky loved to travel with his family and create unforgettable memories, realizing the importance of making the most out of life. Trustee Lovett, as he was affectionately called in the church, was a God-fearing man who accepted Christ at an early age. As a Christian, Ducky always found a place in his life for Jesus Christ. Ducky will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love and joy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Karen; his children: Timothy Lovett of O’Fallon, MO, Nicholas Lovett of Denver, CO, Justin (Morgan) Lovett of Bethalto, IL, Victoria (Donald) Shannon of St. Louis, MO, Katrina Hudson of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Zacchaeus (Elizabeth) Lovett of Alton, Illinois, and Jacquis (Jalisa) Lovett of St. Charles, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren: Raygen, Izzak, Alyse, Day’sheia, Dennisia, Prynce, Bryce, Amia, Za’keya, and Ja’Liah Lovett, Aliyah and Donald Shannon, and Kaleb and Ezra Hudson; fourteen siblings: Aaron, Phyllis, Dennis (Sandra), Merry, Kevin, Eddie (Rosie), Terry, Marvin, Harold (Michelle), Wanda, and Vanessa Lovett, Christine Watkins and Brenda Scruggs of Alton, IL, Francine Jones of Hutchins, Texas, and Roger (Lisa) Lovett of Foster Township, Illinois; his mother-in-law, Susie Ingram of Alton, IL; five sisters-in-law: Louella (John) Lewis of Chicago, IL, Casandra (Elma) Howard of Colorado Springs, CO, Constance Davis of Alton, IL, Stacey Wade of Quincy, IL, and Kristine (Antonio) Stephens of Alton, IL; two brothers-in-law: Glenn Anthony of Colorado Springs, CO and James Freeman; an aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ophelia Lovett; father-in-law, Robert Anthony; two children, James and Jason Lovett; three sisters, Blonet and Kathy Lovett, and Albertine Martin; two brothers-in-law, Robert and John Anthony; and other family members.
