JoAnn Valentine

JoAnn Valentine was born on August 1, 1946 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Osborn Hamm and Gladys Samuels. Her parents; sibling, Ray Samuels; mother-in-law, Louise Jimerson; four brothers-in-law, Donald McClendon, John Ervin, Clifton Hoskins, Mark Jimerson; sister-in-law, Zella Valentine and nephew, Michael Hoskins preceded her in death. JoAnn was a 1964 graduate of Madison Senior High. On July 16, 1966, JoAnn married the “Love“of her life, Victor Aaron Valentine, Sr. They were blessed with three sons, who she absolutely loved and adored. JoAnn was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, in Madison, Illinois, until she peacefully transitioned on June 16, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, with her family by her side. JoAnn was a member of the Lee’s Women’s Social Club and was employed at National-U.S. Steel, in Granite City, Illinois for 32 years as a hot strip bander. JoAnn was an avid shopper. She could spend a whole day in the stores, simply browsing or shopping for her family. One of her favorite past times was being in her yard. On any given day, you could pass by the house, and see her caring for her beautiful rose bushes (her favorite ﬂowers). JoAnn was a big sports fan. Every game day, her presence would be seen and heard at her three son’s high school basketball and football games. She spent many weekends in Lincoln, Nebraska watching her grandson, Vincent Jr., play college football. JoAnn also witnessed her grandson play in, and win a NFL Super Bowl. Her time spent with her beloved family is what she cherished the most. Her favorite saying was, “Family, Together, Forever”. JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Victor A. Valentine, Sr.; three sons, Victor (Rhoda) Valentine, Jr., of Edwardsville, IL; Anthony (Sarah Crockett) Valentine of Madison, IL and Vincent (Angreha) Valentine, Sr., of Madison IL; three sisters, Mary McClendon of Florissant, MO, Linda Hoskins of Centreville, IL and Phyllis Ervin of East St. Louis, IL; three brothers-in-law, Alvin Valentine of Madison, IL, Willard (Sandee) Valentine of Portland, OR and Terrence Jimerson of Madison, IL; three sisters-in-law, Autumn Ann Mitchell of Redondo Beach, CA, Shirley Sue (Larry, Sr.,) Coleman of Arlington, TX and Wendy Gaiter-Jimerson of Bowie, MD; ten grandchildren, Aaron, Alexis, Victoria, Vincent Jr., Jazmine, Nia, Sydnee, Andre, Caleb and Ashton; ﬁve great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Tristan, Nova, Navie and Tyson. All of her nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and special friends, Mrs. Latosha Dinwiddie-Jenkins, Ms. Delta Sherrod, Ms. Elaine Watson, Ms. Leuphilia Clinton, Ms. Joyce Dumas and Mrs. Angela Anderson who will miss her dearly.
