Mrs. Shirley Lowry

Shirley Lowry, born on March 22, 1937, in Madison, Illinois, was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. She was blessed with a loving and Christian upbringing, thanks to her parents Janie and Rudolph Kemp, as well as Monroe and Willa Tabron. On November 27, 1952, Shirley's path crossed with her soulmate, Houston (Dubie) Lowry, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. Just two years later, on December 7, 1954, they took their love to the next level and exchanged vows, embarking on a beautiful journey together. Their marriage lasted an incredible 69 years until Shirley's peaceful passing on January 23, 2024, at 6:30 A.M. Shirley and Houston's union was blessed with a loving family that flourished like a vibrant tree. They raised six wonderful children: Cynthia (Dwayne) Haynes, Jean Lowry, Brian (Deborah) Lowry, Denise Vaughn, Greg (Erica) Lowry, Mike Lowry, and a bonus son, Victor Stewart. Shirley's heart overflowed with joy as she witnessed her family grow. She delighted in being a grandmother to nine grandchildren, a great-grandmother to nine, with one more on the way, and even a great-great-grandmother to two precious little ones. In addition to her immediate family, Shirley is survived by three sisters, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and some very dear friends who were fortunate to have shared in her life. She was preceded in death by one brother, whose memory she cherished. Shirley's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was an active member of Mt Joy Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her membership, she contributed her time and talents to various church activities. She served on the usher board, lent her voice to the choir, and took on leadership roles such as chairing Women's Day and the Long Life committee. Shirley's dedication to her church family was truly inspiring. It is impossible to quantify the number of lives she influenced during her career as a childcare provider. While we mourn the loss of this extraordinary individual, let us also celebrate the incredible impact she had on these kids. Her dedication to childcare and her ability to inspire young minds will continue to resonate for years to come. Beyond her devotion to her loved ones and her faith, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing bingo, exploring new destinations through travel, indulging in music, and showing off her bowling skills. And let's not forget her passion for Las Vegas, where she eagerly embraced the thrill of the slot machines. The day was not complete until she watched “The Young and The Restless” and “The Bold and The Beautiful” and then discussed them with her group of dear friends. Her evenings were then filled with “Family Feud”. Shirley Lowry will forever remain in our hearts as a loving wife, a cherished mother, a doting grandmother, and a dear friend. Her warm smile, caring nature, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, let us find solace in the countless memories she has given us and strive to carry on her legacy of love, faith, and joy. Rest in peace, dear Shirley. You will be deeply missed.
