Connie S. Douglas

Connie Sue (Smith) Douglas was born on April 12, 1952 in Mounds Illinois to the union of Paul E Smith Sr of Danville Illinois and the late Margaret G. (Dixon) Smith. Connie grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois and accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt Joy Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Ephraim Thomas. Connie attended Elementary School and Junior High School in Edwardsville, Illinois. Connie ran track from 1963 to 1965 for the Jaycee Jamborees and AAU Track & Field and she received numerous medals. Her family moved to Alton, Illinois in 1966 and Connie graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1970. Connie continued her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Connie worked at St Joseph Hospital, Barnes Hospital and several other Medical Facilities and retired in 2019. Connie was a living donor and as an act of love she donated a kidney to her sister, Eva on May 29, 1979. Connie was married to the late Terry Douglas Sr and to this union Darcel, Terry Jr and the late Eric Douglas were born. Connie attended Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Alton, Illinois regularly under the leadership of Rev John Buford. On Thursday April 28, 2022, Connie Sue Douglas departed this life at 4:18 pm at DePaul Hospital, St Louis, Missouri. Connie was 70 years of age and had just celebrated her birthday. In addition to her mother, Margaret G. (Dixon) Smith, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr & Mrs Alva (Helen) Dixon; paternal grandparents, Sellie Smith and Christine Diggs; sister, Deborah (Smith) Harvel; two brothers, Carletus L Smith and Paul E Smith Jr.; son, Eric Douglas and nephews, DoSe- an and Hertis Harvel. Connie leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Darcel Douglas and Terry Douglas Jr of Alton, Illinois; father, Paul E Smith Sr (Sha- ron) of Danville Illinois; stepmother, Coena Henderson of Alton, Illinois; brother, Craig (Dorothy) Smith; sisters, Eva Perkins and Jacqueline Ruffin of Alton, Illinois, Dolores (Lorenza) Royal of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Patricia Stokes, Monica Smith, Grace (Ray- mond) Caldwell and Theresa Stokes of Alton Illinois, Katrina and Sean Shields of Danville, Illinois; grandchildren, aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
