Ms. Janice Marie Williams

Ms. Janice Marie (Covington) Williams was born February 26, 1956, in Alton, Illinois. She was the second eldest daughter, and one of seven children born to William Covington Sr., and the late Mrs. Elsie Lee (Fox) Covington. “Strength and honour are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come.” Proverbs 31:25 Janice was educated in Alton, Illinois, and attended college at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois. During high school, she began her career as an intern with Miller’s Mutual Insurance. She retired in 2016 after a stellar forty-year career as a claims adjuster with State Farm Mutual Insurance Company. Janice’s career took her to Texas, Indiana and back to her home state of Illinois where she eventually settled down in the town of Godfrey, Illinois. “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23 Janice loved cooking, dancing, traveling, shopping, and strolling through the farmers’ markets with her sisters. Her calming voice, compassionate and giving spirit were a soothing balm to her family and friends. Janice had a smile that could light up any room. This beautiful sprit attended, Model Chapel, A.M.E., and St James Baptist Church in Alton, Illinois. Gardening was among her favorite hobbies. Her greatest joy and loves of her life were her son Gary Williams, II, and her grandson Gary Williams, III. “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you.” Philippians 1:3 Janice departed this life on Saturday, April 9, 2023, peacefully at her home in Godfrey, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Elsie Lee (Fox) Covington. “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 In addition to her father, William Covington, Sr., Alton, Illinois, Ms. Janice Marie (Covington) Williams leaves to cherish precious memories, her son and grandson, Gary Williams, II, Gary Williams, III, of Alton, Illinois; her five sisters Jo Ann Cisco, Wood River, Illinois, Darlene (Bennie) Oliver, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Laura Shaw of Gilbert Arizona, Yvonne Covington, Alton, Illinois, Jackie (Shawn) Vauters of Fairview Heights, Illinois; Joan Brooks, Alton, Illinois; one brother, William Covington, Jr., Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
