Elder John A. Thompson

Elder John A. Thompson passed from earth to glory on Saturday June 18, 2022. God the giver of all life, in His infinite wisdom, closed the curtain of life and called Elder Thompson back to himself. He was born November 20, 1951, to Sarah Mitchell Thompson and Hosea Thompson Sr. in West Helena, Arkansas. He was blessed with seventy years. After completing his education in Arkansas, John migrated to Michigan to be with family and began working in the field of construction. Returning to West Helena to visit relatives, John met Mary Parker-White who was visiting from Illinois. Convinced that Mary had a place in his future, John pursued and obtained employment in the southern Illinois area and on December 6, 1997, he made the love of his life, Mary Parker-White his wife. and they became members of Oakwood Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Roosevelt Reed. To this union was brought seven children. As a member of Oakwood Church of God in Christ John heard the call of God to move to a higher calling to the ministry. He was ordained as an Elder in 2007 during the Jurisdictional Convocation by Bishop William Scott, Illinois Southeast Jurisdictional Prelate. His call to the ministry permanently changed his life. In response to that call his work was to be totally submitted to God’s service encouraging the saints through singing and exhortation. His vibrant and loving disposition were hallmarks of his personality and will be forever missed by the many lives that he touched. How great is our God to have blessed us with one, who touched our lives, shared our dreams, and enriched our souls. as Elder John Arthur Thompson did. God be praised for a life well-lived. He was preceded in death by his father Hosea Thompson Sr, his mother Sarah Mitchell Thompson, a son Lemondue White, four brothers Hosea Thompson Jr., James Thompson, Willie Thompson, Paul Thompson and one sister Lois Steen Winfield. Elder Thompson leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 24 years Mary (Mother Thompson), whom he loved dearly. Four daughters, Sharlotte Love of Bay City, Michigan, Mary White of Alton, Illinois, Melma Denise Thompson of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Krystal Vaughn of St. Peters, Missouri. Two sons, Derrick Thompson and Cedrick Thompson of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Five sisters Earnestine Montgomery of Little Rock, Arkansas, Vern Johnson of Zion, Illinois, Dortha (Estern) Rivers of Zion, Illinois, Emma Lofton of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Belinda (J.B.) Linzy of Waukegan, Illinois. Grandchildren: Kendrick Thompson, Kenyatta Thompson, Whitney White, Terrence White, Jaylen Washington, Krysten Vaughn, Christopher Vaughn, Kristoph Vaughn, and Brayden Foster, eight other grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A host of other relatives, his church family, and friends.
