Mrs. Maria T. Spann-Moore

Mrs. Maria T. Spann - Moore was born on February 24, 1959, in Alton, Illinois, to the union of Josephine (Ross) and James Spann Sr. Maria also known as “Re Re” she was the third oldest child. At a young age, Maria was baptized at St. Greater James Baptist Church, guided in faith by her grandfather, the late Rev. Charley Ross (Bessie). She was currently attending online services at Thompson Chapel AME Zion Church in Fairfield, Alabama, with her cousin, Rev Bessie L. Bell. Maria graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1977. Maria attended Western IL University in Macomb, IL. Maria dedicated much of her life to caring for and nurturing children through her work at the YMCA, Beverly Farms, and Head Start. Her gentle spirit, patience, and love for children shone brightly in everything she did. She created a warm and safe environment where children could learn and grow through play. She continued to pour her heart into guiding young minds, always treating each child as her own. Maria’s devotion to childcare left a lasting impression on every child and family she touched. In addition to her work in childcare, Maria was also employed at Illinois Central Bus Company for 25 years, where she continued her lifelong dedication to serving children and her community. Her love for God remained the foundation of her life, shaping her character the way she cared for others. She was known for her gentle spirit, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. Maria’s faith continued to shine through in her words, actions, and the love she shared with family and friends. Maria enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Maria was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who peacefully departed this life on October 9, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a loving husband, Clifton Moore Sr of Alton, IL. Children: Howard (Howie) Jackson of Alton, IL, Shymekia Rogers of Kansas City, MO, Claude (TJ) Rogers, LaShonda Moore, Cynthia Moore, all of Alton, IL, and Clifton Moore Jr. of Charleston, IL. Siblings; Joe Ann Brown of Alton, IL, Victoria (Nate) Clark of Trussville, AL, James Spann Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, Marquato (Curtis) Rattler, Marvin Spann all of Alton, IL, James Lamar Spann of South Bend, IN, Keith (Tenisha) Muhammad of Houston, TX; Grandchildren: Domenick Anderson, Darrius Rogers, Malik Rogers, Zariah Agbigbe, Iziah Ebner, Taylor Freeman, Aryanna Rogers, Avorie Agbigbe, Riley Agbigbe, and Ryan Agbigbe, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and James Spann, a brother, Charley Spann, and a nephew, Kyle Spann.
