Rose Marie Pitts Rose Marie, our much beloved 97-year-old Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend passed away on May 4, 2023. She left this world leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Born in Alton, IL on December 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace Hickman, Rose entered this world with an infectious spirit and an insatiable curiosity. She was a beacon of light and warmth, spreading joy wherever she went. Her departure has left a void that can never be filled. Rose was a devoted and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and above all had an unwavering Faith in God. She was a source of constant support, guidance, and always ready with kind words. Her love for family and friends knew no bounds. She nurtured relationships that spanned generations. Rose graduated from Alton High School in 1944 and worked in her early years at Snyder’s Department Store in downtown Alton, IL. She later spent many years at Olin Corporation in East Alton, IL and after retirement, worked at the Ventures Store located on the Beltline in Godfrey, IL. Rose was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton, IL, then later joined Christ Lutheran Church in Federal Way, WA. Rose had a deep passion for quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and bowling. She was involved with the Busy Fingers for 67 years. Rose loved to travel and never turned down an opportunity to explore the world and embrace every moment along the way. Everyone she encountered experienced her compassion and kindness. She believed in making a positive difference in the lives of others and leaves behind a legacy of generosity and selflessness. Those who were fortunate enough to know Rose will remember her or her warm smile and genuine heart. She had an uncanny ability to uplift spirits and bring people together, fostering an environment of acceptance and inclusion. Rose survived Richard B. Pitts, her husband of 55 years. She was preceded in death by sisters, Harriet Watkins, Wilbertine Dickerson, Hattye Canty, and brother, Maurice Hickman. Rose is survived by her children, Bernard & Candi Pitts of Meridian, ID; Gerald & Diann Pitts of Perris, CA; Steven & Patti Pitts of Tampa, FL; Kim & Lorenzo Walker of Des Moines, WA and Kay Pitts-Walton of Federal Way, WA. Rose also leaves 13 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. Rose’s extended family includes the Walker and Walton families. Rose’s family finds solace in the knowledge that she is at peace. She will forever remain a guiding light and cherished soul. Final resting place will be alongside her life partner, Richard, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations to be made in Rose’s name to Christ Lutheran Church, 2501 SW 320th Street, Federal Way, WA 98023.
